# Set up amount tiers (order value)

Amount tiers give a discount based on the total spend on products covered by the rule — not the number of units.

***

## When to use amount tiers

Amount tiers are ideal when:

* You sell products with very different quantities (a $500 item vs. a $5 accessory)
* You want to incentivize larger order values rather than raw quantities
* You're running a "spend more, save more" promotion

***

## Setting up tiers

1. When creating a volume pricing rule, set **Volume type → Amount (order value)**
2. Click **Add tier**
3. Set **Min amount** (e.g. 500 for $500)
4. Set **Max amount** (e.g. 999) — or leave blank for "$1,000 and above"
5. Choose discount type and value
6. Repeat for additional tiers
7. Save

***

## Example

| Min spend | Max spend | Discount |
| --------- | ------------- | -------- |
| $200 | $499 | 5% off |
| $500 | $999 | 10% off |
| $1,000 | *(unlimited)* | 15% off |

A customer who adds $650 worth of products gets 10% off at checkout.

## How the order value is calculated

The amount is calculated from the total value of items covered by the rule. Items outside the rule's product scope are not counted toward the threshold.
